Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin whose active form is methylcobalamin. Vitamin B12 is activated into methylcobalamin through a methylation reaction carried out by the enzyme methionine synthase reductase. However, this conversion is inadequate in many people for various reasons, including genetic abnormalities of the methionine synthase reductase enzyme and certain diseases such as pernicious anemia and diabetes, leading to the accumulation of homocysteine and, consequently, an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and bone deformities, depression, altered cognitive function, lens displacement, and myopia. Thus, supplementation with methylcobalamin helps supply it to the body, potentially ensuring efficient homocysteine metabolism. It ensures adequate red blood cell formation, nerve protection, cell multiplication, DNA synthesis, increased energy, and neurotransmitter synthesis. Lamberts Vitamin B12 is therefore indicated for people interested in obtaining the active form of vitamin B12; maintaining healthy homocysteine levels; maintaining healthy red blood cells; supporting healthy nerve function; and treating diabetic neuropathy. It is a dietary supplement.
